Job Interviews: How Eliminate the Competition!

It's well known that only having a high school diploma or even an entry level degree is becoming obsolete. It is almost just as well known that many people have great positions with great companies that have no such degree or diploma. So, how does one compete in such a competitive job market? Here is the answer! The job interview! Many employers interview a numbers of candidates for available positions that they are looking to fill. Often times even when they feel like they have a prime candidate, they still interview a number of people just to evaluate the other talents out there. This is your time to shine! I can't tell you how many times I've been given positions over people who had more experience, more education, and even more recommendations! Why? Because there is no one who interviews better than I do! Many people go into an interview just hoping they get hired. This is the #1 way to NOT get the job! Your application ends up in a mass pile with all the others that hoped to get the job. Hoping it's your lucky day and you just happen to have the interview scheduled at the time when they are ready to hire is an extreme long shot. Interviews are much more than dressing nice and telling the interviewer you're willing to do everything they want including walk up the street and bring back a slice of cheesecake. To put yourself above the competition you must prepare for your interview in a manner many have never even heard of. The interviewer is your competition! Keep in mind that if they hire you, they want to hire you under terms that are most convenient for the business. You want to be hired under terms that are most convenient for you, but you are usually willing to sacrifice all of your conveniences just to simply get the job! Never do this! Plan to take charge of your interview. Be confident and well informed about the company you are interviewing with. Always have 1 more question than they have and always challenge the interviewer to answer questions that test their business and company knowledge. Be comedic, personable & assertive. When you leave your interview the interviewer should feel as though you are evaluating their company just as they are evaluating you. This along with a few other key tactics will flip the odds and have the interviewer thinking that they need to act fast if they see value and don't want to miss out on a great employee. The normal interview leaves the ball in the employers hands with a number of candidates all just throwing themselves at the same job. Your approach in itself will set you apart as the feeling you leave them with will differ from any other candidate they interviewed.

The Job Search: The Correct Approach

To many it seems that we are faced with the task of a new job search more often than we would like to. Often we jump at the first opportunity given that offers a decent pay with an ok schedule and some quick mention of growth potential. The problem with this is that once we are locked in and the desperation subsides, we often find ourselves waking up to go spend the majority of our days somewhere we don't want to be, with people we don't want to be around, doing things we'd rather not be doing. The Young Business Professionals would like to help our readers avoid these fairly common but undesirable situations. The first step to avoid this misery driving situation is to take time to plan your job search. Although things like our bills, spouse, friends & family all add to the pressure of needing a steady income asap, we must focus on not allowing these things to force us into make rash decisions. The fact of the matter is, the job market is like a casino and employers are like the dealers. Everything is set in their favor but with calculated movements and the proper education you can drastically turn the odds in your favor.
